Transferring a domain name to a new registrar is a common process that can save you money or provide better service features. Here’s a step-by-step guide to make the transition smooth.
Conditions for transferring a domain to Cap Connect
To transfer a domain name (e.g., .com, .info, .net, .org, etc.) to Cap Connect, make sure it meets the following conditions:
- You are the owner of the domain to be transferred, and you have access to your current registrar to manage your domain (DNS changes, contact modifications, etc.)
- The domain name must not be expired
- The domain name must have been created or transferred more than 60 days ago.
The last condition is imposed by the ICANN registry and must be followed by all providers. However, it is only mandatory for certain domain names.
In fact, the 60-day period is required only for the following extensions:
– Generic top-level domains: .com / .net / .org / .info / etc.
– New top-level domains: .web / .online / etc.
Other extensions (.ma, .fr, .eu …) are not subject to this condition.
- Your domain must be unlocked
Sometimes, certain domains, especially top-level ones (.net, .com, .org …), are locked to protect them from transfer (status: ClientTransferProhibited).
Before proceeding with the domain transfer, you must request the unlocking from your current provider.
You can unlock your domain name directly from your client area at Cap Connect.
- The email address of the domain owner contact must be correct.
A transfer confirmation email may be sent to your email address. Make sure it is updated and correct with your provider.
- Domain transfer code (EPP Code)
Obtain the transfer code for your domain from your current provider. If you have a .ma domain, the recovery procedure is different.
Place your domain transfer order on this page
In case of a dispute, unpaid bills, or an expired domain, please contact your registrar directly.
Tip: To identify your current provider, perform a Whois search of your domain name.
Note: The domain transfer code may have different names: AuthCode, AuthInfo, EPP Code, Transfer Code…
