How to add an alias to cPanel?

An alias displays the same website under another domain name. It does not create an independent site and does not necessarily redirect the browser to the primary domain.

Prepare the domain

The domain must be registered, allowed by your plan and pointed to your hosting. Decide whether you want both addresses to remain visible or to redirect to a single address.

Create the alias in cPanel

1. Open Domains, then Create a New Domain.
2. Enter the already registered domain.
3. Choose the option to share the primary website's document root, depending on the interface available.
4. Confirm and check the document root displayed in the domain list.

In older interfaces, the feature may be called Alias or Parked Domains. Historical screenshots may show this interface.

Check the website and HTTPS

Open both domains and check that they display the expected content. The certificate must cover the alias name. If you want a single URL, configure a redirect to the primary domain.

Alias or addon domain?

An addon domain uses a separate directory to host another website. A subdomain is an address such as support.exemple.com ; it can also have an independent directory.
