A registration lookup shows published dates, nameservers, providers and domain statuses. Visible information depends on the extension and data-protection rules.
WHOIS and RDAP
RDAP is now the reference protocol for generic-domain registration data. WHOIS remains in some contexts, including national registries. For .ma, use the registry’s lookup service.
Useful information to read
- Domain name and extension.
- Listed provider or registrar.
- Published registration and expiration dates.
- Nameservers.
- Statuses indicating restrictions or processing stages.
Interpret key statuses
clientTransferProhibited indicates a provider-side transfer lock. serverHold means the registry is not publishing the domain in DNS. redemptionPeriod and pendingDelete are different stages of the deletion lifecycle.
A technical status does not always explain its administrative cause. Ask the provider to confirm the required action.
Understand the limitations
Personal contact details may be hidden. A public lookup alone does not prove a person is authorized to manage the domain. Holder and contact changes follow provider or registry procedures.
Act on an anomaly
If a domain appears suspended, expired or locked, note the exact statuses and open a ticket. Do not change DNS arbitrarily; DNS changes do not remove every registration restriction.
