A domain transfer can mean a change of account, registrar or registered holder. These operations have different requirements. This guide distinguishes them, including special procedures for .MA.
Understand domain transfers
The word transfer can refer to moving domain management or changing the holder. Identify the intended operation before ordering:
Holder change (change of registrant)
This changes the registered holder, for example when an organization transfers the registration to another eligible holder.
Example: Transferring a domain to a customer or another authorized holder.
Important: Some country-code extensions, including .MA require official documents under the registry’s procedures, for example those administered by ANRT in Morocco.
Also note that offering .MA domains for sale is prohibited, as described in the applicable naming decision. Check current requirements before arranging an ownership change.
See our guide: How to change the holder of a .MA domain
Registrar transfer
This moves the domain from one registrar to another. Example : Moving a domain from Registrar A to Registrar B. Depending on the extension, the process may require unlocking, an authorization code and confirmation through email or the account panel.
Account transfer (same registrar)
This moves domain management between accounts at the same provider. It can involve:
A change of registered holder, or
No holder change, such as consolidating the same organization’s domains.
Account transfers at CAP CONNECT
Case 1: Account transfer with a holder change
The procedure depends on the domain extension:
Generic TLDs, such as .COM, .NET and .ORG
For generic domains, follow the registrar’s change-of-registrant requirements and confirmations. The current holder should first update the registrant information through the Client Area where permitted, completing all required approvals. Ask support about the order of operations if a registrar transfer is also planned, since a holder change can trigger a transfer lock.
For details, see:How to update domain-holder information
After the holder information is correctly updated:
The current holder can open a ticket requesting the account transfer.
The provider processes the internal transfer after verifying both parties’ authorization.
Additional evidence may be requested for authentication or compliance; do not assume that documentation is never required.
Country-code TLDs, such as .MA
National registries may require official forms and evidence supporting a holder change.
For .MA, follow the official holder-change procedure and provide the required signed request.
Supporting documents such as company registration or identity documents may be required.
Note: The operation may be subject to transfer fees, which should be confirmed before the request is finalized.
Case 2: Account transfer without a holder change
If domains move between accounts belonging to the same holder, the provider still needs to verify authority and consent:
The holder remains unchanged, but authentication or supporting evidence may still be requested.
Both account holders must confirm the requested move through authorized access.
Transfer procedure
The following steps concern account transfers at CAP CONNECT, whether or not the registered holder changes.
Step 1: Sign in to the Client Area
Sign in to your client area
Step 2: Open a support ticket
Create a support ticket requesting the account transfer. Include:
The domain to move.
The destination account’s email address.
Step 3: Check the destination account
The destination account must exist before processing. If the recipient has not registered, provide the official signup link.
Step 4: Recipient confirmation
The recipient should open a ticket from their own account confirming acceptance. The confirmation should clearly state:
I confirm that I control account [email@example.com] and accept the transfer of domain [example.com] to my account.
Step 5: Support verification
Once both requests are received and verified, thesupport team handles the administrative process. You will be notified when it is complete.
