How do I register a .ma domain name with a reserved term?

Registering a reserved-term .ma domain can sometimes lead to confusion among applicants. In this article, we will explain the process for registering a reserved-term .ma domain name.

What is a Reserved-Term .ma Domain Name?

According to the regulations governing the .ma domain name, a reserved domain name is one that can only be registered after prior approval from the ANRT (National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency). The applicant for a reserved-term domain name must demonstrate and justify their right to register the domain in question.

The ANRT has created a non-exhaustive list of reserved terms, which includes terms like the name of the Kingdom of Morocco, its national institutions, and public services. You can view the list of reserved .ma domain names on this page.

Below are some domain names (either standalone or in combination with another term) that are also considered reserved:

King, Queen, Roi, Reine, Prince, Princesse, Moulay, Lalla, Royal, Royaume, Sahara, Kingdom, Socialmedia, Med, Mohammed.

If your domain name includes one of these terms, for example, “saharamarket.ma” or “medstore.ma,” the ANRT will determine if you are eligible to register the domain name.

Domains representing Moroccan municipalities can only be registered by the relevant municipalities, and the term “commune” must appear at the beginning of the domain name. The municipality’s legal representative must sign the form to validate the registration.

Descriptive Extensions

Domain names with the extensions .gov.ma, .ac.ma, and .press.ma are also descriptive extensions but are considered reserved terms. They also require approval from the ANRT before they can be registered.

The applicant for one of these extensions must be a legal entity and must justify their right to register by providing the necessary documents issued by the relevant authorities.

  • .ac.ma for academies and educational or professional training institutions
  • .gov.ma for government entities
  • .press.ma for press organizations

Submitting a Request for a Reserved-Term .ma Domain Name Registration

Once you have placed and paid for your order for a reserved-term .ma domain, the domain will be temporarily registered in your name.

The domain remains in a blocked state for a 5-day period. During this time, you must complete your domain registration request by filling out and sending the Domain Registration Request Form for “.ma” Domain Names Requiring Prior Approval from ANRT along with the document justifying your right to register to the email address support@capconnect.com. If the 5-day period passes without us receiving the necessary documents, the order will be canceled, and the domain will be released. Your client account balance will then be debited for the fees paid during the order.

As the domain service provider, Cap Connect will submit your request to the ANRT, which will decide whether to approve or reject the domain registration request. Generally, the ANRT’s decision is communicated within 5 business days, unless the ANRT requires an external opinion.
