ICANN email verification procedure for new domain names

Since January 1, 2014, ICANN (the Internet regulatory authority) has imposed new regulations to validate the email address of new domain names. This procedure must be completed within 15 days of domain registration to avoid suspension.

It is a mandatory and important procedure, particularly for all generic top-level domains (gTLDs), such as .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, .INFO, or .NAME, as well as the upcoming new gTLDs.

A verification email is therefore automatically sent when registering a domain name. This email will have the subject “IMMEDIATE VERIFICATION required for…” and will not ask for identification (no password is required). You simply need to confirm that your email address is valid to approve your domain name by clicking on a link.

Below is an example of the email you will receive for verification. You just need to click on one of the links indicated by the arrows:

We always advise our clients to use a valid email address when registering their domain name.

What should I do if I forgot to validate the verification email?

If you forget to validate your domain name within the 15-day period, your domain name will be suspended, and an error message will appear on your website, along with instructions on how to reactivate your domain name.

You can always have the verification email resent to your email address (listed on the Whois) by entering the code provided and clicking the ‘Resend Verification Email’ button, as shown in the image below.
