Domain locking is a security feature provided by domain registrars to prevent unauthorized changes or transfers of a domain name. When a domain is locked, it cannot be transferred to another registrar or have critical settings modified without first being manually unlocked.

Why is Domain Locking Important?
- Prevents Unauthorized Transfers – Locking a domain helps protect against domain hijacking, where malicious actors attempt to transfer ownership without the owner’s consent.
- Enhances Security – It safeguards domain settings, such as DNS configurations, from unintended modifications.
- Reduces the Risk of Accidental Changes – Locked domains require an additional step for changes, preventing accidental updates that could disrupt website operations.
When Should I Unlock my domain?
While locking provides security, there are certain cases where unlocking is necessary:
- Domain Transfers – If you intend to move your domain to another registrar, you must unlock it before initiating the transfer process.
- Changing Registrar Settings – Some registrars may require the domain to be unlocked for specific modifications.
- Updating Contact Information – In certain cases, unlocking might be necessary to update key domain registration details.
